Existing buildings are a significant consumer of energy and contributor of greenhouse gas, yet they are rarely renovated to a performance level comparable with new buildings.  New research suggests that building interiors and the materials they contain are contributing to a wide variety of health problems.  The session will explore the barriers to making existing buildings healthier and more energy efficient.  The session will conclude with a look at a controversial proposal to require existing buildings to be upgraded to current energy standards at the time of sale.
